School Meals

We are pleased to share information about FM Catering Services, our partners in providing delicious and nutritious meals for our school, from September 2025.

As specialists in educational catering, FM Services holds the heritage of being the world's first school meal provider, bringing many years of experience to the table. They are dedicated to offering an enjoyable lunch experience for children throughout their time at school.

Our Commitment to Excellent School Meals

FM Services provides catering to many schools across the region. They focus on providing tasty and nutritionally balanced school meals, which is reflected in a higher percentage of children eating school meals at FM-served schools compared to the national average. Choosing a school meal offers numerous benefits.

Benefits of Choosing a School Meal

  • Nutritious and Balanced: Meals are cost-effective while ensuring children receive a healthy, balanced meal. FM menus meet government standards for school meals and are packed with the goodness growing bodies need. A well-balanced lunch can lead to better concentration levels.
  • Fresh and High-Quality Ingredients: FM Services school meals use fresh, high-quality ingredients. Meat, poultry, and vegetables are fresh and locally sourced where possible. FM does not use preservatives, colouring, or additives unsuitable for children, nor are nuts or Genetically Modified (GM) foods on offer, with salt, fat, and sugar content kept to a minimum.
  • Variety: Menus operate on a 3-week cycle, ensuring variety. Every diet can be catered for, including religious, medical, and food allergen diets. Halal meal options are 100% authentic and supplied by an approved, audited, HMC-certified supplier. All staff are fully trained to handle special diets and food allergens. Vegetarian & Vegan options are available daily.
  • Cost Savings: School meals are free for all children in Key Stage 1 (UIFSM). Some children in Key Stage 2 are eligible for Free School Meals (FSM).

Beyond the Traditional Meal

For children who prefer a packed lunch, FM Catering offers a 'fill your lunch box' service, providing healthy packed lunch choices with a 'select and fill' option at the service counter. The aim is to provide a balanced packed lunch including starchy food, a protein source, and at least one portion of fruit/veg.

FM Catering Services also supports school life through theme days that support curriculum activities and calendar events. They aim for at least one theme event per term for maximum engagement. Recent theme days have included Chinese New Year, Valentines, Space, and World Book Day.

FM Services is dedicated to providing excellent service on a plate, offering delicious, nutritious, and sustainable school meals while fostering positive dining experiences for all children.
