At Thornton we follow the KAPPOW art and design units of work which provide sequential lessons organised in four core strands that run through every year group. These include drawing, painting and mixed media, sculpture and 3D and craft and design. The organisation of lessons into core strands enables children to activate prior knowledge and build on skills gained in earlier units. We introduce children to a diverse range of artists, enabling them to develop an understanding of art over time and across cultures. The use of sketchbooks enables pupils to generate ideas, develop their creativity and unique artistic identities.
